BBTran 1.7 Release Notes

Dear users.

This is official Release Notes for BBTran 1.7 that was released 7 Aug 2009.

It is a major update that fixes many problems with app crash on 4.6 and connectivity issues.

This update was forced for all BBTran users though some versions lower 1.6.2 have bug with auto update mechanism, so those users will probably get an exception. Today I got some of feedback requests from them and recommended to update manually from http://ota.bbtran.com.

This release also bring a lot of improvements and new features. Please read this brief list. I recommend read it to the end, since there is a bonus at the end ;)

1. Improved connection options.

WAP2 connections support was added. Transports detection mechanism was improved. Connections probing wizard on first startup is now removed. Instead was introduced connection failure compensation mechanism: it is now possible to specify multiple transports to use and if one fails then next will be used.

 

2. Merged Word and Text translations.

In previous version you had to choose either single word translation with word variants or a plain text translation. Sometimes users had to do both in order to find translation, especially in case of 2-3 word phrases. Now it is done automatically by BBTran. Just choose translation mode, language and type text or phrase you want to translate. In case a detailed translation of word or phrase is found, BBTran will show it. Otherwise a plain text translation will be shown. As a result word translation in Google provider support “from” language auto detection!

3. Dictionary mode added

In the previous version mode “Dictionary” was basically a word translation but not and EN-EN real dictionary with words definitions. in version 1.7 BBTran introduces a real dictionary mode. Now it supports only Google Provider for EN language but more languages will be added soon and also a Reference.com provider is a candidate to be added to this mode very soon. In addition to word definitions dictionary mode has a pronunciation of the word and  related phrases for some words or phrases.

 

3. Translation providers list refreshed

As I wrote previously a Reference.com word translation was closed. So with this release it was removed from word translation providers. But instead of that a Bing Translator was added to the list. it also supports any to any translation with auto language detection as Google. Although it supports less languages, it is still a good chance to get alternative translation of the text.

 

4. Improved blackberry Integration

There a many improvements in Integration features. In addition to Email/SMS/PIN integration BBTran now offers integration to most blackberry apps. It allows you to translate any selected text.

Three “Send to” menu items are replaced with elegant “Send to” popup screen and “Send to Memo” option is added:

New BBTran version also supports HTML email translation by seamless conversion html to plain text.

Don’t forget that Integration options are available in BBTran Pro Edition only.

 

5. Some UI improvements

Nothing special here, but in general a lot of annoying message boxes were removed to keep user experience simpler. One new popup was added on first BBTran startup if user did not set proper permissions to BBTran. Without those permissions BBTran fails to connect and I got a lot of feedback request to help troubleshooting. Now there is no need to troubleshoot this. Application will ask you about everything it needs:

 

 

6. License Screen improved

I’ve added “Activate License” button to the License Info screen to activate with tokens received from reseller sites. The “Get BBTran Pro” button allows now to purchase BBTran Pro Edition directly from your blackberry via Mobihand mobile shop:
